THE BRIEF 

Moving from a traditional setting to a transformative change management programme, this key role was designed as a strategic and operational role with a specific emphasis on IT infrastructure, network systems and managing risk. The role required a senior, experienced leader with a specialism in IT, systems and risk and excellent commercial knowledge and background. The leadership team also needed someone with high Emotional Intelligence (EI) with strong ability to manage a variety of stakeholders.

THE PROCESS

On a retained basis, King Recruit worked closely with the HR Director to define the role profile. Whilst the skills and experience were important, it was vital that we selected and assessed individuals for high levels of EI. They needed to be capable of strongly grasping the internal challenges of the organisation and assessing when it was appropriate to ‘push back’ if required on projects and key decisions. With a pure search and selection (headhunting) approach, King Recruit mapped the whole of the Southwest, identifying a long list of around 50 senior IT professionals. The search was narrowed to a shortlist by selecting individuals that had strong commercial and leadership skills.

THE RESULT

Following a 3 stage interview process with the HR Director, Team and presentation to the Board, the successful individual was appointed. From a technical leadership point of view, this individual was unique, incredibly charismatic, with high EI and vast experience in complex organisations, managing change.

This was a pivotal hire for the firm, representing a significant return on investment. With the ability to transform IT services and infrastructure, revolutionize internal systems and create a centre of excellence – this set the firm on a path to the next chapter of modernisation and transformation.
